  1. Considering your age, that isn't a bad time at all:) Continue running, and you can consistently shave seconds off that time. By senior year, you can probably get down to about a 2:15.

Don't listen to the first poster. That time is one that hasn't been achieved by the majority of high school boys, let alone a 15 year old girl. Therefore, her view is not credible. Below are my tips for improving an 800m time:)

    Preparation outside practice:

You need to combine strength training with cardio to see optimum results in your performance. Do pushups, crunches, lifts, etc.; you can find variations of such strength exercises online. Variety is beneficial; it will truly challenge your body and take it to limits it has never reached.

    800m on race day:

Everyone paces oneself differently. If you're allowed to cut in right after the gun goes off, make sure you get a good start; don't let anyone elbow you in an attempt to push you back. If anything, elbow others:) Start out at a fast jog, and take it up a notch after the 200 mark. After your first 400, just hang in there; try not to slow down. When you come to your last straightaway, give it all you've got left. There's no one way to run for everybody; each person has his/her strengths and weaknesses. Try not to let yourself get psyched out. One saying I like to run through my head is "Pain is weakness leaving the body". It's a saying by the Marines, and it's great to think about when you're feeling mentally and/or physically exhausted during a race. Good luck!:)

  2. 2:39 is not a bad time at all for a 13 year old boy. The 800m is a race which requires lots of strength and endurance. As your body develops, your time should go down quickly. As a boy, you will need to get down around 2:00 or so to be competitive in high school, depending where you live.

By the way, don't believe the 15 year old girl who says she runs 2:00. The all-time US girls' high school record for the 800m is 2:00.07. So, unless this 15 year old is faster than any girl before her, she's not telling the truth.

  3. Actually, for a 13-year-old that's not bad at all, and the 15-year-old girl who says she ran 2:00 is blowing smoke. Our league record for girls is 2:10.3 and the US high school record is 2:04.5.

The top boys in our league are running 2:02 or better, so that gives you an idea of what to work towards.

I'm talking varsity times here and you aren't there yet, so you're off to a good start.

  4. yeah thats good.

    anything between 2:00 - 3:00 is a good time. <3

    hope that helps

  5. a boy i train with he is 12 years old he runs 2:08 for the 800m..

  6. no that is kinda slow!!1

  7. its ok-but youre young. you wont contend for winning varsity nor jv but since youre that young youve got a good start. just keep working at it and you'll get better. the best do sub 2mins (no chance that girl in the first post ran a 2:00)
