  1. I'm not sure where you live (Dallas is a pretty big city) but here are a few places that will be perfect for you if you're near or willing go South of LBJ toward downtown.  All three of these are open 24 hours.

    1) Cafe Brazil - 6420 N. Central Expressway (Near University Blvd.)  On the east side of the highway.  It's a great, funky place where artists & musicians tend to hang.  Also good place for post-clubbing breakfast and delicious coffee and desserts.  Big enough to probably find a quiet spot where you can sketch to your heart's delight.

    2) Buzzbrews - 4154 N. Central Expressway (Near Fitzhugh)  Also on the east side of the highway.  Not very big, not much ambience, but it's open 24 hours and has hot coffee and decent food.  It's a wifi hotspot too.

    3) Metro Diner No.4 - 3309 Gaston Ave. near Hall.  What can I say? It's a diner.  Not gonna win any awards, but it's a good place to chill in the wee hours.

Welcome to Dallas & I hope you find your perfect hangout.  Dallas can take some getting used to, but it actually has a lot to offer.  East Dallas is where you'll find more artsy folks than in the Northern or Western sectors.  Good luck ;-)
