I'm 24. I majored in dance performance and pedagogy in college...and I've been teaching and doing choreography locally for the past few years...but I still want to get jobs dancing myself.

Am I too old to pursue dancing professionally again?

  1. NO. No no no no no and NO.

18-30some are the best years for professional dancing. And even in the late 30's, it is possible to dance professionally. Since you danced in college, you have a good background and could pick it back up quickly.

You in this situation are the best candidate for professional dancing. So you might not have professionally danced for the past few years. That means NOTHING. It JUST means that your dance career may be slightly shorter than the normal professional dancer who starts at 18-20.

Only professional ballerinas really have any real advantages to starting their professional career earlier and even then, it doesn't matter much. Comtemporary dancers can dance professionally until late in age.

So certainly there is NO reason 24 years of age would ever be considered too old to pursue a professional dance career again.

  2. i dont think you are too old to dance professionally again. i would take some open classes and then start auditioning. also when you audition for a company be sure if you know if they are also into contemporary or something so you just dont show them you know ballet

  3. Of course not and in anyway...it's not as if ur starting from the bottom so tbhh it shudnt be that hard to break into the business!!!

There are people way older thn yoo at my dance centre who are still taking performing art lessons and still getting reccomended to auditions...frequently getting into the shows...btw a little kid from my dancing is now the new voice of the new persil advert. We did the musical  "WICKED" at the people's theatre a while ago (a really well known theatre) and it was sold out every night and the older ppls dances were a hit!!!!don't every think ur too old to pursuit ur dreams and update on how u get on emziepops@hotmail.com

  4. Did you know theres a swimmer in the Olympics this year who's 41 years old? Formerly a wife/mom. Need I say more?

  5. of course not! ur never too young to dance :D 24 is still very young for dancing. go ahead and dance away!

  6. Ma'am, 24 is NOT old. I'm really glad you are actually thinking of your future and trying to do better. I have a cousin that is about 25 and she still lives with her mom, is jobless, and only spends money not make money.  Pretty sad.

Well any who, I think if you believe you have the skill to pursue your dancing skills, go for it. You only have one life, might as well make the  best of it.
