I am 24 years old. I received a diploma through home schooling. I want to go back to school to be something along the lines of a therapist/counselor.

The problem is... I have been out of school for a long time and have no idea how to go about funding to go.

Can someone please tell me some ideas on how to get funding, where to go, and such?

Also... I never took and SATs or ACTs, will I have to do so?

And I do not know any GPAs because of being home schooled, will this be a problem?

  1. You will most likely have to take some type of entrance/ACT-style test.  The University of Arkansas has a test requirement if you are in your 20's, even if you took the ACT in H.S.  Have you ever taken any public courses with large groups?  I was home schooled in early elementary and have some friends who were their entire HS life.  Just get ready for some silly-a$% people.  You will get along fine, and college is a large enough place that you can find your niche group, no matter who that might be.  You'll do great.  Good for you for going for it!

  2. Yes, you will have to take an entrance exam like everyone else who attends college. This entrance exam will be able to place you in the correct level for math, reading, and writing, according to Texas schools. They will need to see your diploma showing that you did graduate from high school. My step mother was home schooled and so were her 3 sisters and she is now in college after having her 2 children and she had no problems getting in school. As far as funding, be sure to fill out the FAFSA, contact the financial aid office of the school you are wanting to attend and they can assist you with this. You should have no problems. Good luck with your endeavors.

  3. You will be able to take a college entrance exam.  These are usually called a placement test and are free.  To apply for financial aid go to http://fafsa.ed.gov

Here is a good book about fin aid and the types you might get.

    Good luck.
