25.0 divided by 29.4?

I know the answer is 0.85, I was told that I could figure that up on the calculator. I'm doing a review to make sure I know what I'm doing, and I honestly forgot about how to do this. Could someone explain how I get this answer?

25/29.4 = (25)/(147/5) = 125/147 =~0.85

What do you mean how i get this answer?? you use a calculator, however, if you do not want to use a calculator or don't have one and are too lazy to open the application like me, just make them fractions. 25 does not need to be changed but it is easy to see that 29.4 is 29 and 2/5 or (29*5+2)/5 which is (30*5-5+2)/5 which is 147/5

so to divide fractions, flip the fraction representing the divisor and multiply.

25/(147/5)

=25*5/147

=125/147

then if you need to get an exact decimal you can use a calculator but a good approximation can be made without one.

we know:147 is close to but less than 150

70% of 150 =150/10*7 =15*7 =105

80% of 150 =150/10*8 =15*8 =120

90% of 150 =150/10*9 =15*9 =135

so since 147 is 3 less than 150 we can guess that 70% of 147 is about 102 but greater than 102 because you are taking 70% of a smaller value so it is only natural that a smaller amount be subtracted if you know what i mean. 80% of 147 is slightly grater than 117 and 90% of 147 is slightly greater than 132 (the difference between the estimate and the actual number should decrease as the percentage gets closer to 100% because our subtraction of 3 originated from 100% of 150 and 147

so you realize that 125 lies between 117 and 132 so it is between 80 and 90% or 0.8 and 0.9. you can make other guesses about what the answer may be by realziing that 132-117=15. 15/10=1.5 so every increase in 1% or .01 should increase the numerator by 1.5

so just do that starting from 117 until you get to 125.

you realize that it takes 5 of these increases to get to 124.5 and since 125 is more by a third of an 1.5 increase you can estimate that 125/149 = approximately 0.85333333333333...

and thus 25/29.4 = approximately 0.8533333333333333...

how did u arrive at 0.85 - did u use a calculator or not?  if u did - just type 25 and press the divide button and then press 29.4 and then press =

on a calculater you literally just type it in.. but if you want to do it by hand u need to use long division...since 29.4 can't go into 25 you put a decimal down and move the decimal in 25.0 over so the new number is 250... 250/29.5= 8.47 because 29.5 goes into 250 8.47 times after moving the decimal over the answer is .847 or .85
