I want to try to load up some 100gr. HPBT Match bullets from seirra in a .257 dia for my 25-06rem. Does anyone have the min. max loads with certain powders? I haven't bought the reloading mannual from seirra yet but are planning on it at a later date. Thanks for any input

Also has anyone tried theses in a 25-06 rem?

FYI the gun is at a gunsmith for a new barrel, accurize the action, lapped bolt lugs etc. and new stock. These bullets will only be for paper punching only.

  1. When you get it out of the shop, pick up a reloading manual there. Hodgdon's are free.

  2. I bought a brand new Remington 700 in .25-06 back in '74.  I wanted the hottest rounds for it so I went with the 100 grain load.  When I punched paper with these I consistently had my target 'peppered.'  That is, the bullet would hit true but right by the bullet hole every-time there was one, two or more tiny holes as if the bullet were 'falling apart' before hitting the target.  I quit using these (giving away what was left of a box of twenty) and switched to 120 grain rounds.  No problems.  Excellent on paper, superb on Whitetail deer.  This year I'm trying the 115 grain Winchester Silvertips.

These were factory Remington 100 & 120 grain rounds.  And no, sorry, I haven't hand-loaded since the late Sixties.

    Good luck.

  3. All of the powder manufacturers have load data free on their website.  In addition, there is a wealth of information at

    http://www.handloads.com  and

    http://www.reloadersnest.com

All that being said, there is no substitute for a good reloading manual.  Speer, Hornady, Sierra, and Lee all publish excellent reloading manual.  The all have exterior ballistic tables in them, which can be invaluable to the hunter in understanding how his ammo is going to work in the real world.

  4. If you are going to use WInchester, IMR or Hodgdon powder, there is a ton of information here.... Just punch in the caliber you are interested in.
