will there be other people my age on the ship? I wanted a cruise to Hawaii and this line seemed to be my best option, but I'm hoping I won't be the youngest person on the ship, after reading the reviews it seems like a lot of seniors use this cruise line.

  1. Cutie, the odds are that there will be a bunch of people your age on the ship. We have been on two Holland America cruises and there were people of all ages on board. In fact, there were 131 children on our last one, and we hardly saw them. But, there were lots of 20-30 year-olds.

I predict that you will enjoy yourself.

    Regards,

    Dan

  2. The cruisers on a 15-day cruise, on Holland America, to Hawaii are going to be older [probably mostly over 60].  Holland appeals to older, more-traditional cruisers in general.  Cruises longer than 7 days also tend to attract an older crowd.  And Hawaii appeals to older cruisers, also.  Unless you want a very quiet cruise where you will probably be the youngest - or one of the youngest - people on board, this probably isn't the cruise for you.  Although, Holland does have a very high level of service and food and the ambiance of the ships is very nice - no Las Vegas glitz on Holland!

Supposedly, Norwegian has fought to get ships from other lines ousted from Hawaii, with some success.  However, that line gets a lot of negative reviews for Hawaii.  If you can get a cruise on Princess or Celebrity, that would probably suit you better, but that may not be possible.  You can go to VacationsToGo.com and search for cruises to, or in, Hawaii.

If you want to read more about Holland America to Hawaii, you can go to CruiseCritic.com.  Click on "Boards" and then go to the cruise line's section there, or click on "Reviews" to read what others think.  "Member Reviews" are especially helpful, but there is also a review from a professional on each ship.

    Hope this helps!

  4. I think most of the folks will be old:

  5. Yes yes yes yes yes yes there will be a ton of people of all ages. Since you are 25 there will definaltey be people your age. Trust me. I have been on about 10 cruises. There will be a huge variety of ages and your will be one of them. So no worrys, just have fun!!!!

  6. You have two things going against you having a lot of young people on your cruise.  First, Holland America is noted as the cruise line that has mostly seniors.  Second, cruises that are more than 7 days also typically have fewer younger people on them; younger people do not have the time off from work or school to go cruise for two weeks.

I have been on about 20 cruises all total with 4 different cruise lines and its been my experience that the young people typically go for a week to the Caribbean or Mexico.  Cruises that I have been on to Europe, South America, the Panama Canal, and Alaska have had just a few young people.

But my advice to you is not to let that bother you, just find the few young people who will be on the ship.  And have a great time with them.  Plus, being a senior myself, the seniors like to have a good time too and will be in the disco dancing, in the pools and hot tubs, and enjoying all of the things on ship.  We just do not make as much noise doing it.

I'll be doing my first Holland cruise this Dec to the Caribbean so I'll see for myself how it is.  Your other option for a cruise to Hawaii is the one we will betaking in a few weeks on Royal Caribbean out of San Diego.  RC typically has more younger people.  But it may be too late for you to book this one.

  7. You can learn lots of things on cruises like carving walking sticks, making hair pieces, cleaning methods for dentures and the like. Enjoy....do not consider jumping overboard although this would cause an international rescue bid which might be lead by young fit firm men in uniforms
