Last week my 25hp mercury was running fine! Then we docked my boat and were going to put on my trailer and my motor would not start again! I have the maint. manual and do no have spark to either sparkplug!!! Trigger coil measrues approx. 700 ohms, so does my new trigger coil. I need to pull the flywheel but don't know if the bolt loosens left or right thread? Does anyone know what else could cause this problem?

  1. if i had to guess i would say it is more than likely a grounding issue, especially since it was working fine last week.  Make sure nothing is grounded out, also check all your grounds and make sure everything is grounded properly.  Usually the stator will just not work, it slowly fails, you should get some spark,or reading,  but then it will fade off or work intermittently.  After checking the grounding situation, then check the stator, but you will need a peak meter to test the output, try reading the ohms first.Oh by the way it is right handed thread.

  2. Right hand thread, but use an impact if possible.  It makes it a lot easier than trying to wrench it loose.  I agree though, check the kill switch and look for any loose or broken wires.

  3. If you loose spark on both plugs it could be a faulty trigger coil, or stator.  You need to use a peak meter to read the millivolts being produced by both. The first thing I would check for is that your kill switch isn't grounding out. do an ohms test to ground,  it should be normally open till the switch is pressed.  I think the flywheel nut is right threaded.

  4. before you do that check the switch box

as for the answer  left to loose  right to tight
