I know its my fault, but I could use some advice. I am a U.S. visitor driving a rental car in Toronto, stopped in a Fire Zone area where I did not see the sign just to say goodbye to my elderly mom, before returning to U.S. I got a ticket within 20 mins. for $250.00. Anything I can do to at least reduce ticket?

  1. The OWNER of the car ( the  car rental company ) will get a copy of  the ticket in the mail and they will go after YOU for the money. They will put thru a credit card charge and probably add a "service charge " to that amount.

You did pay for the rental with a credit card, didn't you ?  They got you.

It will take a few weeks for all this to happen.

  2. $250 OUCH!!!!!   you can plead you case at traffic court infront of a JP but you will have to find out where that is in Toronto it should be near where you pay the fine in person (at least it is in my town).  Last year my partner got her speeding ticket reduced by the JP to a no points ticket so it is at least worth a try
