Iv just took this boat to sea for the first time, sealine 19 with above engine, whilst under 2000 revs its sweet as u nut but when you open it up it dosnt want to have it and it starts to die on itself. If you knock it out of gear it revs up lovely and sounds great! it sails at harbour speeds great, just wont let you open it up.The engine has been cherished as has the boat by the last owner, its got clean oil ,clean plugs you can eat your dinner off it! but for the past five years the boat has been restricted to running at 6mph on a river, and he never had it above 2000revs because of the speed limit. The fuel is new,it broke my heart filling it today! any ideas would be appreciated.

  1. From what you describe it sounds like the second stage main jets are blocked.

I know this sounds far fetched but it wasn't uncommon on these engines to solder up these main jets to restrict the engine for low speed use.

Or it may just be that old fuel has gummed up all the jets and it just needs a good carb. clean.

Give it a try, before you do anything expensive.

  2. Fuel starvation of some description.
