  1. well it wont affect me as our local one closed about 2 years ago and it is such a pain have to go on a bus now to post office.  But I do feel sorry for those that are waiting for the axe to drop.

  2. I think this will effect everyone.Since they changed the way of paying pensions & unemployment benifit. It has only been when not if that they start closing post offices forcing the people who decided to be paid through post offices to open or get paid through the bank.

  3. it already has, affected the area where we live, we now have a journey of approximately two miles to the nearest Post office, , I  wonder how much thought above the= business level= has been put into these closures, an easy answer is =not much= how do you post a parcels on line, the post office has, to be used by many people at sometime or other, what else is the post office going to close delivery letters ?, the closure of the main Post offices?, what has happened to the basic idea of service to the public =particularly the elderly= who live far away from the nearest Post office =due= to closures

  4. It doesn't affect my area so much as the older people in it. Thing is with the elderly is they grew up with the Post Office as an integral part of their lives and the community. Fewer things are becoming available through the PO, such as TV licences, so fewer customers. The part of town where I am is still very "local", unfortunately the closures will speed up the "de- localisation" of the community.

  5. It won't country our 2 local ones closed 2 years ago and the next nearest one is 3 miles away and I'm in London so god knows how rural area will cope !!

  6. I live in a small village and we have a post office and the nearest after that is 3 or 4 miles away.but with this government who knows how safe local post offices are?this "LABOUR" government is killing off the working class.

  7. All the shops on my high street have petitions to keep our local post office open.  I don't even know where the next closest post office is so it would be a real pain to send or pick up parcels if they do close it.

  8. Just another drop in the ocean. We've already lost our butchers and the bank. The local shop is way way overpriced and doesn't stock everyday stuff anyway because they know that they're too expensive for the weekly shop.

A 10 mile journey has been the norm here if you want to buy anything for a long time.

  9. nowdays i think it will not effect me becux as u know there is

    internet allover in the wolrd

  10. Not sure Country as I live in a village just outside the Main P.O in the County town - it might just be over 2 miles.  I am hoping to move this year though so it won't apply - not here anyway!

  11. Where I live, it will definitely change a lot of things. We have a local Post Office which is very handy with gas prices the way they are right now. There is talk of ours closing & being transfered to a larger city approximately 30 miles away. Not good for the folks that live here, we are a rural area.  :~{

Have a great day n Happy Easter to All!!

  12. Not a great deal, our local post office closed 3 years ago.

  13. This will impact those on low incomes who can't afford the Internet and Cannot get bank accounts the most I think it's a scandal

  14. Very greatly - particularly for those more elderly than I.

e.g. My mum opted for the post office rather than the bank for her pension . She now lives in a Old People's Home and doesn't have a passport, driving license or Utility Bill so opening a Bank Account at 88 is proving a bit difficult and the nearest post office will be 2 buses away soon. The local Pay point has now closed so it's a 2 mile walk to get a TV License, gas, electric - at least we can buy stamps in the Newsagents.

I don't think this was thought out very well, also for the people who run the local Post offices and live on site - they'll be homeless

  15. Have they announced which ones yet?

I think it's disgusting, but it's being primed for sell off right?

  16. it won't effect my area, but for those in rural l areas, it will be disastrous

  17. The one in the next street closed a few years ago so I use the one in the town centre but that's only a 4 minute walk. The one in my mum's village closed a few years ago too So she has a 3 mile drive to use the one in the town.

  18. Sick of it two closed a couple of years ago and it is a right pain geting in car or going on bus to nearest one not in walking distance for the elderly at all C.

  19. Post offices should be part of  all communities like Gas  Electric Sewerage etc

  20. What does the gov't plan to do to help those who lost their jobs?  2,500 post offices?  That's a LOT of people w/out jobs.  My town is the largest between two major cities-both are 50 miles in either direction, so I doubt we'll lose ours, but it sure will affect the overall unemployment rate.  However, I guess many of those employees are close to retirement and could opt for early retirement.  Geez, gotta love our gov't....

  21. Did anyone really expect an intelligent idea from the government

  22. In this case I am inclined to agree with the proposal, in many area's there are up to three or four sub post offices competing for 20 customers.

Don't forget that YOU are paying the subsidy to keep them open.

At the moment I have the choice of three, but the main GPO. is only a 15 minute walk away, and the nearest house a 5 minute walk away.
