25th All India Dashmesh Hawks Hockey Tournament final won by BSF Jalandhar
The 25th All India Dashmesh Hawks Hockey Tournament got concluded yesterday, April 17 at the Hawks Stadium Bela Road in Rupnagar, India. BSF Jalandhar won the final match by defeating the Punjab Police (PP) Jalandhar by 5-4.
In the first half, the match went quite much in equal possession of both the teams. However, in the 15th minute PP was found in action in the opponent's defence circle, when Hardeep Singh scored the opening goal of the match, setting the
scores at 1-0.
With PP hockey men on the lead, BSF began attempting a series of many attacks over the PP’s defensive circle. However, the team trailing behind, failed to find an equaliser.
Conclusively, the first half had no more score additions and it closed at 1-0 score lead for PP over BSF Jalandhar.
In the opening five minutes of the second half, BSF succeeded to level the scores to 1-1, when striker, Ranjit Singh, picked up the deflected ball and scored a shot into the goal. This 40th minute score became possible more because of the
opponent’s feeble attempt to defend, allowing a chance to settle the scores at one each.

After the equaliser, BSF gained back their lost confidence and demonstrated a good show in the field. Unluckily, again PP was found on the front foot when they received a penalty-corner with three minutes left on the clock.
Harmik Singh from PP delivered the ball home, taking the lead to 2-1 scores. This goal was countered by the BSF in the thrilling last minute of the match.
BSF’s hockey star, Ranjit Singh, managed to level the scores once again by the time-out was called, holding a tie at 2-2 each.
The organising committee decided to give 7.5 minutes extra play time in order to decide the title win after considering the weather conditions. However, the match again ended up with the scores locked at two goals each.
Conclusively, the tie-breaker rule of shoot-outs was awarded and then BSF won the title by 5-4 score lead.
The 25th All India Hawks Dashmesh Hockey Tournament is counted amongst one of the India’s top hockey tournaments.
It originated in 1972 with an aim to promote the sport of hockey in the locality. Over some reasons, the event could not be held since 1996. However, it finally resumed this year with its Silver Jubilee that got currently celebrated as the Dashmesh
Hawks All India Hockey Festival during the tournament.
According to SSP Rupnagar, Jatinder Singh Aulakh, the tournament has been pronounced as grade-one by the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).
In this year’s edition, the tournament featured many of India’s top national and international hockey stars that represented their respective clubs and divisions.
