Question:

25th wedding anniversary gift?

I will be attending a party for my fiance's cousins next weekend and the gift selection is on me. I didn't think cash was appropriate for this type of event.

Would a nice piece of crystal or lenox be OK to give? Since I don't know their tastes I would be sure to buy it at Macy's and enclose a gift receipt (we're in another state and I checked that they have a Macy's in their area).

Is there anything else that might be good to give?

  1. I will be married 25 years next year.  Here is what I would like-

NOTHING silver.  When we all got married in the 1980's "fancy" was very popular.  We all registered for china, silver, etc.  As the years have gone on, we have bought our spouses fancy gifts.  I got a Silver Service Tea Set for Christmas one year.  I have purchased expensive china pieces as we could afford them, and now have all I need.

People my age want to be young and think young again.  We like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel.  We want to de-clutter our houses from all the c**p we never use (like the Silver stuff).

The wine, or the restaurant gift certificate are good ideas.

At our age, we're trying to put kids through college so having a free meal is appealing.  Our kids also give us headaches, so the wine is a good idea, too.

They don't want more stuff to have to dust off.  If you have to do something silver, do a picture frame, but they might get a lot of those.

  2. Yes or you could give them a gift cared so they can pick something they really like.

  3. For anniversaries I like to give the couple a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant.  You could also give them a gift certificate for messages at a spa, or a night at a local bed and breakfast  these suggestions  would be costly so you could go in on this with other family members. Just try to think out of the box a little. Because honestly most people give really useless gifts for these kind of occasions. They have been married for 25 years and already have all the crystal they will ever need.I recieved so many crystal bowls, platters and candy dishes for my  wedding 20 years ago and I never used them. I finally gave them all to Volunteers of America. I hope I don't get any more for my 25th anniversary.

  4. Silver is the appropriate gift for a 25th wedding anniversary gift, if you can find something (online or at a department store) in silver.  A gift card is always acceptable but less personal.

  5. What about somethung from Tiffany and Co?  They have nice silver gifts.

  6. s***w all the other cliche c**p.  this is what i always do.  usually for wedding presents, but this works as well.  go to a nice liquor store and talk to someone who knows wine.  get a bottle of red wine that is good NOW.. then get one thats good in 5 years, then one for 10.  it will set you back some cash. i try to stay around 80 bones or so. depending on the relationship that you have with them.  sends the message that they are going to be together for a while.

put them in a three bottle box.. they should have them there.  explain on a little piece of paper that is attached to the box.  when to drink what. I always hear that it was the best present.  they wont be let down.  who doesnt like to drink?

  7. The traditional gift for a 25th anniversary is silver.  A nice silver picture frame is always useful.  Other suggestions are silver serving pieces, silver candy dish or bowl, a ceramic anniversary plate with silver writing, etc.

If you want to get something crystal, get something with a silver rim and/or silver serving spoon.  I like your idea of getting your gift at Macy's.  They usually have lots of the above ideas, and they can be exchanged.

You could also go to one of the stores that engrave, and get something silver engraved with their names, anniversary date, etc.

  8. that sounds great. traditionally 25th anniversary is the silver anniversary u may also consider silver that could be engraved with their  wedding date and an inscription like celebrating 25 yrs. with hopes of many more to come. good luck!
