Question:

26 weeks pregnant. Round Ligament Pain?

I have been experiencing pain in my groin area. It's not a sharp stabbing pain... More like achy/over-tired or pulled muscles. Makes it very uncomfortable to walk. I tried to google my symptoms but the only thing I came up with was Round Ligament Pain. But most of the women who have this are describing it as very sharp abdominal pains. My pain is more in the pubic area. It doesn't go away with rest. I have a regular OB appointment on September 3rd so I thought I'd bring it up to my doctor then instead of missing work for an earlier appointment.

I have also had a nasty cold for about 2 weeks and every few days I'll have coughing fits where I can't stop coughing for a few hours. Think they're related? What's going on?

  1. What you're describing sounds like my experience with Round Ligament Pain. The coughing is probably going to make things worse, as it's going to pull muscles differently now that  you're pregnant. It's nothing that I'd worry about getting into the doctor sooner for, personally.

  2. I think it's either round ligament stretching or maybe when you're coughing, you're straining your groin muscles. Sometimes when I sneeze, I feel like my groin muscles ripped apart :( it can be very painful. I'd just mention it to your obgyn at your next appt :) good luck!

  3. I think you have both. The coughing is definitely affecting it but at the same time round ligament pains are probably happenining.

  4. I had the same problem with my third baby.  I had so much ligament pain on the pubic area and even in the ribs.  Tell your ob/gyn.  Mine recommended Tylenol  but only she/he can really give you the right recommendation.  Good luck, relax, you still have a long way to go.

  5. My RLP was never sharp or stabbing, it was achy and dull and OUCH!

  6. It sounds like Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction which is what I have. It is a pain in the pubic bone that gets worse throughout pregnancy. Physio can help, so ask your midwife for advice.

I don't think it's connected to the cold.
