I'm 26 years old and from KC, and will be moving to Atlanta at the end of Sept. I am looking for some ideas on places to live....here is an idea of what i'm looking for: i plan on renting, i would like to live some place that is close to some nightlife, preferably where i could walk or take public transit to, needs to be a safe area, prefer somewhere with a young crowd, i would like to live near the city, and i will be working around the NW corner of the freeway loop, so i guess somewhere not too far away from that (45 min drive or less)...i've never been to Atlanta so any help is much appreciated. I did hear about a neighborhood called Buckhead, and heard its kinda what i'm looking for, again any suggestions are much appreciated....thanks all

  1. Midtown would probably be perfect for you.  Look around the Piedmont Rd area for something.  The MARTA station is close, there is a lot that goes on around there and there is a nice, HUGE, beautiful park.

    **corrected the typo, sorry!

  2. I would check out Home Team Locators. It is a free service paid by the advertising budgets of apartment complexes. They take in all of your considerations, and find the perfect apartment for you. For more information check out hometeamlocators.com, or email Jason Barnes at JasonBarnes@hometeamlocators,.com

I have personally used this service when I moved here a few months back. I highly recommend them.

  3. I would say one of the following:  Buckhead, Vinings, Virginia Highlands, Sandy Springs or Decatur.

  4. Buckhead does have alot of what you are seeking, but tends to be one of the pricier areas to live. If you have the $, is is a really nice area. I would suggest Atlantic Station or Midtown though, if you are on a budget.

  5. Virginia Highlands is a popular neighborhood in Atlanta, and it's not as expensive as Buckhead. There are great restraurants and shops nearby, too. It is safe, and does have a young crowd. It's close to pretty much anywhere in Atlanta you want to go.

  6. Atlanta doesn't have a great layout for living near nightlife and public transportation.

Virginia Highlands is by far the best neighborhood for walking to nightlife (bars mostly, not dance clubs), but is not really near a subway station.

Buckhead can be expensive but honestly there are so many apartment complexes, and new ones popping up constantly, plus condos that people can't sell, you can find a place for decent money (as opposed to Atlantic Station where everything was built within the last 2 years, there are no deals to be found there). The area near the Lindbergh MARTA station might be what you're looking for.

Midtown is nice but a longer trip to NW Atlanta, and it's also kind of a g*y area so if that makes you uncomfortable, you wouldn't like it there.

Also I would add, living in Atlanta is not as horrible or annoying as people from outside the perimeter (suburbs) would make it out to be. Huge chunks of the city of Atlanta look like the suburbs, full of strip malls and parking lots, houses that aren't very close together. I've paid maybe $25 total for parking in the past year.

  7. Ummmm...I think Dana meant Midtown...there's definitely no "Midnight" lol!!!! Anyway, time for my two cents:

Midtown's OKAY...not as cool as people make it sound. Living in the city has it's ups and downs. I lived right downtown on Peachtree St. for 4 years. I lived in an awesome highrise that overlooked everything! it was fun. you could watch all the thanksgiving and christmas parades from your balcony! i liked the area i was in (Peachtree St. and Baker St.) with the exception of all the d**n homeless people!! THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!!! And they harass you endlessly. Ugh. But if you go to midtown, you lose some homeless people and in turn, you recieve c**p loads of prostitutes and weirdos. I dont recommend it. lots of crime, too. I would absolutely tell you to live in Buckhead if you can afford it. They just gave Buckhead a huge facelift and made it alot more residential than it was, which meant sacrificing almost every awesome club that was there!  :(  im still bitter about it. And if you arent ballin outta control enough to afford the majority of stuff in buckhead, I can point you in the direction of a decent neighborhood in buckhead for the cheap!!!!!! (email me!!)

And, if I were you, seriously? I wouldnt even bother with living in the city. its a pain in the ***. they're ALWAYS doing some sort of construction, you have to pay to park literally EVERYWHERE you go, the cops are insane, traffic's retarded, it's loud, it's just ridiculous sometimes. I would TOTALLY go check out the North Druid Hills area. Its very close, and feels so much more like the suburbs. But its very artsy, young and cool. Its near Emory, so lots of college kids. Its pretty too! Ive wanted to live out there forever, but I work in Gwinnett County so that's too far for me. Let me know if I can help you some more!!! And welcome to the ATL!!!!   :)
