260 GTX or 4870. Video Card Question?

Want to get a new Video card, these two are around the same price and performance. Ive heard tons of great things about the Nvidia 200 series and tons of good things about 4870 being a great single card solution. (I'm not going to use SLI or Crossfire).

Which one is better?

  1. The real clash today between the GeForce GTX 260 and the Radeon HD 4870 ended up with no definite winner.

Nvidia and ATI fans can argue all day, but there is no real way to settle it, unless of course you hand pick the benchmarks to your preference.

Where the Radeon HD 4870 falls down a bit is on its idle power consumption and operating temperature levels, though the most hardcore enthusiasts will find this a non-issue when installing a relatively cheap aftermarket cooler.

  2. i would get a 9800 GX2, in a lot of games it has about the same performance as the 4870 however some games really use the dual core factor in the 9800 gx2 (like unreal tournament 3) so as games start to come out that take more advantage of dual cores in video cards the 9800gx2 will be getting more more performance out of games. there hav also been some driver issues with the 9800gx2 that have held it back, but better drivers will come out.

  3. 4870 the new chip is freaky good but for a one card solution wait for the 4870 X2 but if you need it now 4870 or the 280 not the 260.
