26th FIBA Asia C’ Ship Day 3 Review: Jordan knocks Indonesia out; Japan humble Syria (Part-3)
Jordan 89 – Indonesia 59
Jordan knocked down the hopes of Indonesia to excel further in the tournament after handing them their third straight loss in the preliminary round day 3 of the 26th FIBA Asia championship in Wuhan, China.
Islam Abbaas was the star of the game for Jordan. He erupted with 14 points, 10 boards and 3 assists in just 16 minutes of the playing time, helping his team to nab a comprehensive 89-59 victory over Indonesia. Veteran Rasheim
Wright landed a game-high 18 points.
Jordan outplayed Indonesia in all of the four quarters, leaving no room for the opposition to gain any sort of momentum. They drew the first blood after establishing a 22-16 lead in the first quarter and the started the second
quarter with a 13-3 run to boost the lead.
Even after procuring a massive lead at the interval, Jordan continued their domination and did not slow down in the second half of the game. Although Indonesia displayed a better performance after halftime and scored 30 points
in the last two periods, however Jordan responded with 45 points and won the game by 30-point margin.
Japan 77 – Syria 55
Japanese star Kosuke Takeuchi had a magnificent double-double with19 point and 11 boards, spearheading his team towards an electrifying 77-55 win over Syria. With the win, Japan improved their record to 3-0 in the 2011 FIBA Asia
Championship and topped the group C.
Takuya Kawamura and Joji Takeuchi scored 17 and 12 points respectively to help Japan maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Both the teams had some wavering moments in the preliminary minutes of the first quarter however Japan quickly gained control and sealed a 17-15 lead. Takeuchi ignited a 12-0 run in the start of the second quarter which ultimately
became the turning point of the game. Syria showed some retaliation before the break, but were countered by Japan, which ensured a 34-24 lead as the game progressed into the second half.
Takuya Kawamura buried 10 of his 17 points in the third quarter to give Japan a15 point lead, entering into the fourth quarter. The last 10 minutes couldn’t change anything for the Syrian team as Japan continued to amplify the
lead and finished the game with a comprehensive 77-55 margin.
