26th FIBA Asia Championship 21 Sep Review: Lebanon and Taiwan seal comprehensive wins: (Part-1)
Lebanon 101- Uzbekistan 53
On the final day of the second stage of the 26th FIBA Asia Championship, Lebanon routed Uzbekistan 101-53. In doing so, they improved their record to 2-3 in Group E and clinched the fourth position to advance into the quarter finals.
Samuel Hoskin paced the Lebanese efforts with a high-flying double-double. Hoskin netted a team-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and was pivotal in clamping down an early surge by the Uzbeks.
While Samuel Hoskin provided fireworks on the front court, Lebanon’s superstar Charles Tabet proved to be a force on the paint and clutched 17 boards.
Vyacheslav Denisov, who finished the night with a game-high 19 points, headed out aggressively and buried two sizzling 3-pointers in no time to provide his Uzbekistan an early 10-0 advantage. Lebanon retaliated swiftly though and snatched the lead 24-22 at the end of the period.
The second quarter turned out to be a compete nightmare for Uzbekistan and they were reduced to only 4 points. Hoskin and Ghaleb Rida lifted the momentum for Lebanon on the other hand, scoring 8 and 7 points respectively to build a massive 50-26 lead going into the halftime.
After a dramatic collapse in the second quarter, Uzbekistan did not pose any threat in the last two quarters and went on to lose the game by a massive margin of 51 points.
Taiwan 109 – Malaysia 62
Tsung-Hsien Chang racked up a game-high 25 points as Taiwan clobbered Malaysia 109-62 on the day 3 of the second round of the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship. Chih Chieh Lin also added 21 points to ensure that his time makes it to the next round.
Malaysia looked confident in the preliminary six minutes of the first quarter and romped to an 18-8 run to clinch an early advantage. However their lead proved to be short-lived as Taiwan nipped their scoring in the ensuing period and procured a 24-18 advantage. In the second quarter, Malaysia again scored 18 points, but failed to match the brilliance of Taiwan and were pushed back to 51-36 at the break.
In the second half, the Malaysian surrendered meekly and managed to add only 26 points to their total. The Chinese Taipei team on the other hand went on a roll and completely ran over the Malaysian defence to carve out a 109-62 win.
