  1. Before you spend a bunch of money, spend a little time learning about photography ... take a class and this and a lot more will be explained ... spending a lot of money on a camera will not make your photos ... you are the one that does that.

  2. The human eye sees the same as a ~50mm lens. That means a 28-400mm lens will see from slightly more than your eyes to way closer than your eyes would see.

If you want it in terms of zoom it is roughly a 14x zoom (400/28 = ~14).

As far as physical size of the lens goes - I don't know. Using different technologies camera companies can build lenses to different physical sizes.

  3. Try to be a bit more specific about what you want in a long lens. 28-400 mm is a very big lens, with a huge zoom range. I wasn't even aware of one that could cover that range.

Be aware that it's almost impossible to hand-hold a 400 mm lens without camera shake. Image stabilization would be essential and may not do all that;'s needed. A tripod would be best.

Also consider what the aperture (F-no) is over the range. It might be f/4 at 28, but f/11 at 400.

  4. WHAT are you talking about?  Please ask a better question. OK?
