2K Sports bring Kinect to NBA 2K13 – Video Games Update
2K Sports has announced that the Xbox 360 version of NBA 2K13 will have Kinect Voice command support. Unfortunately for PlayStation 3 owners there was no announcement for PS Move support.
NBA 2K13 is an upcoming basketball game developed by Visual Concepts and is published by 2K Sports. The game is due for release this fall on October 12, 2012 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii-U, PlayStation Vita and PC.
It seems that many developers have started to use Kinect in core games and Microsoft’s investment in the 3D Camera Motion control is finally paying off even though most of the core games that utilise the Kinect features only use the voice recognition.
The developer states that gamers will be able to command players in the game to go to specific locations on the court which will enable gamers to set up elaborate plays and complete change the way the basketball game is played.
The down side is that because of the limitations of Kinect the voice commands feature will only be available in single player mode. Since Kinect cannot differentiate between two users, the feature will not be available in local multi-player. Just like in
FIFA 13, the Kinect Voice commands features will pick up on gamers swearing during game-play and this exclusive feature will net the player a foul in the game.
What’s odd is that 2K Sports has decided to disable Kinect functionality in online multi-player as well. This might be because they do not want the game to feel unbalanced or one sided since not every gamer owns the Kinect add-on for the Xbox 360.
2K Sports also believes that Kinect Voice command usage in online multi-player will take away from the experience because of Kinects’ input lag.
2K Sports has not revealed if NBA 2K13 will support any other Kinect features besides Voice recognition. This news might also upset PlayStation 3 owners as PS Move support features will not be making a return this year. This means that PS Move support was
not very popular with gamers when it was introduced to the series last year in NBA 2K12 and has been scraped from this year’s installment.
