This amount has just been allocated to Africa and some other nations. Do you think it is enouth and will it help? If you say yes please state in what way it will. I can see that it may help if it is used in the right way, but as This Is Africa how much of that will end up in government pockets?

  1. Key word. "GREED"..... to manage such an amount would need a big administration. Greed might cause the money to go to waste...

  2. If the money donated every year actually reached the people, then Africa would have been a different place years ago. People are starving in Africa while money is still pouring in. I was once told that charity organisations are legally obligated to use only 10% of what they collect towards the cause. Don’t quote me because I do not know if it is true but my gut feeling tells me that for some…. ‘Money DOES fall like leaves from a tree’

Europe has made agreements with the governments of many African countries allowing them to fish in their waters with massive ships that rape their waters. As a result, the average fisherman from African countries with their small boats, hardly catch anything in their nets anymore. They can not earn a living.

Europe also has the audacity to send powdered mild to Africa at dumping prices, which the poor Africans buy because it is cheaper, rather than fresh milk from their own people. They have no idea that they are slicing their own throats.

Africa receives far too many handouts and they ultimately expect free handouts. This state suits many European countries as it makes it so much easier to rob them. They do not realise that they are beggars, and they have lost more with this mentality of expecting and taking than they can begin to imagine.

  3. I agree with Lark, they should send people with to make sure the money get spend well and that the people that need it the most gets it. Pointless just giving it to the governments. I mean the West has been giving money for years and years trillions of Dollars, what happened to the money, why is Africa still so poor and still in such a state? Because they squander it or do not know how to spend it correctly?

  4. Exactly, Barend D. How much is going to end up in Government's pockets? That's the $2bn question. It's like giving money to the SPCA. You know the money doesn't get used for food and blankets, but you just keep giving. Instead of just giving money, they should get involved themselves. Send people in to monitor the use of it. Maybe then the money will be used the way it was intended to be used.

$2bn is a lot of money and if used right it certainly can make a difference. I think the majority should be spent on education.

Catch a man a fish and he eats only once. Teach him to fish and he eats a lifetime. This will certainly help in the agricultural field. We need more farmers to produce food for the growing masses.

  5. One have to put it in perspective. The war in Iraq cost the USA $2bn a week. The trade between Europe and the USA alone amounts to $2bn a day. The top ten wealthiest people's fortunes grow on average by $2bn a year each. The building of the new stadiums in SA for 2010 is costing double that. By giving $2bn to Africa to uplift them, is like taking a coffee mug full of water to fight a raging bushfire.
