My 1st hard drive is full so I am going to install the 2nd myself. It looks simple to do, I took it apart. It has a second bay and 2 additional wires. What do you recommend I buy and from who? I want at least a 100g drive. Can I transfer all of my music, pics, etc. to my new bigger drive, then use my 1st drive for normal daily use? Thanks

  1. Have you considered an external hard drive? I bought a 500 gig external for $120 and have since seen the same one on sale for $100 on occasion (Seagate) About all you have to do plug in the power and then the USB cable and your ready to go. You can then back your Hard Drive and delete any thing that isnt necessary after that. Just an alternative suggestion of course Maybe for your applications the 100 gig internal would be more suitable. Just wanted to share another option with you.

  2. Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "2 additional wires," but I'm assuming you have an IDE or SATA cable (what transfers data) and a power cable. On an IDE drive, the power cable looks rectangular with 4 holes for the four rods on the power receptor on the HD. Both the data and power cables on a SATA HD look like tiny capital L's.

I recommend Western Digital. I'm an IT tech by trade and have built 2 computers successfully. Both the HP and most of the Dells I handle use Western Digital HDs, and the only time they've failed on me was through CONSTANT writing and rewriting (video editing and rendering).
