How come the embassy is asking for a 2nd joint sponsor when the 1st sponsor meets the Poverty Guideline requirement? This is for IR5 visa.

  1. Just because an I-864 was accepted by US CIS does not mean that the sponsor met the requirements. It is up to the consular officer at the embassy to determine that an I-864 meets the requirements. Often, sponsors leave off previous individuals that they have sponsored when counting the number of people they are responsible for. Thus, in their calculation, it can seem that they meet the poverty guidelines, but when the consular officer adds in the other people they have sponsored, they are actually below. Rather than fighting this requirement, it is usually easier to provide the joint sponsor.
