Question:

2nd grade school supplies

My children haven't yet reached school age (16 months and not even born yet) so I'm clueless. I want to help out a friend of mine. She just moved to my neighbourhood less than a week ago and with buying a house and having to pay two mortgages this month, she's not sure if she can find the money to buy her daughter school supplies outside of a backpack.

I get paid tomorrow and I'd like to help out. I'd like to buy the school supplies for her, and let her choose a backpack she likes, but I am clueless as to what a girl going into the second grade would need for school.

So, what does a girl going into the second grade need for school?

Thanks.

  1. if you go to walmart they have school supply list of local schools by the school supplies

  2. well you may want to check with the school first, some schools actually provide all the kids will need (ours does) and some have a list they can give you.

It would stink if you went and spent all that money on school supplies only to fin dout the school provides everything. So check there first.

    Otherwise I would say

    crayons

    markers

    pencils/erasers

    pencil sharpener

    glue sticks

    highlighter pen

    sticky notes

tissues (surprisingly this is something most schools do not supply)

    scissors

    writers notebook

folder with inside pockets for bringing papers home in

    pencil case for holding everything

    ruler

but honestly any school who asks for more than half this stuff is not a very good school. Our school provides evertyhign all the way through elementary. We only need to send them with a backpack that's it.

  3. Aww that's so nice of you. Anyway, if you know the name of the school she is going to you can probably find the list on their website. Just google the name of the school and the state you're in, it should be fairly easy to find. =]

  4. It varies from school to school. Find out what school she will be going to and check out their website. Most school sites post their grade-level supply lists online.

And I think that's so nice and thoughtful of you. You seem like a wonderful friend, I applaud you. =)

  5. The school sends a list home.  The list can also vary by teacher.  Do not follow other lists here, rules vary school to school.

  6. you can always go the the child's school and get a supply list.  or target & walmarts etc.  have the lists out for the school.  this way you can get exactly what she needs and put it all together in the back pack.  she'll love it and you're friend will GREATLY appreciate the effort.  good luck

  7. pencils and erasers (little kids make a lot of mistakes)

    glue sticks

    pencil box

    Rubber handled scissors

Crayons or coloring pencils ( the school usually supplies crayons)

1 spiral notebook (until teacher lets u know what is wanted)

    1-2 folders

    Extra Stuff:

    Kleenex

    hand sanitizer

That should be more than enough for the beginning.

The school usually supplies paper for lower grade students.

  11. Every teacher usually has a list that they give the kids parents during 'open house' before school starts. Tell the parent to ask the teacher for a list.

The amount of things they have to have now is ridiculous.
