I also need an idea for my higher level group, who are reading independently at about middle of third grade level. Can you give me any suggestions for books that they will especially enjoy?

  1. The first book in the Boxcar Children series, or since it's the end of the school year, Sarah Plain and Tall or Laura Ingalls Wilder books.

  2. I'd try some of Roald Dahl's shorter books, like Fantastic Mr Fox or Esio Trot.

  3. for on-level, the marvin redpost series is great!  my kids got tired of the junie b. jones books.

for your higher group, any of the ramona books would be great.

  4. try junie b jones for the on-level kids and maybe the magic treehouse series for the advanced ones

  5. Check with your state curriculum. The State mandates what books you are to use.
