  1. Denny Lyons, 1887 Athletics, 52 games

    great site

  2. "Kobe Bryant" is wrong.....Denny Lyons REACHED BASE 52 straight, but that was by either a hit or a walk. As for the second longest hitting streak in major league history, two men are tied for second.

    Willie Keeler- BALTIMORE-1897- 44 games

    Pete Rose- CINCINATI-1978- 44 games

Joe Dimaggio (56-the record), Bill Dahlan (42), George Sisler (41), and Ty Cobb (40) are the only other players to have a hit streak of 40 games or more.

The longest recent hitting streak was by Jimmy Rollins. He started the streak at the end of the 2005 season and continued into the '06 season, hitting in 38 consecutive games.

  3. I think Pete Rose at 44 games.

If I remember the story straight, Gene Garber insisted on staying in to try to get Rose out in the potential game 45.  He said the last thing he wanted to do was walk him.  After getting behind 2-1, he threw two straight changeups that Rose swung and missed at.  Rose was very unhappy afterward, saying that Garber treated it "like the 9th inning of the 7th game of the World Series."  Odd thing for "Charlie Hustle" to say.

  4. It's Pete Rose's 44-game streak in 1978. He tied Tommy Holmes' 37-game streak in Shea Stadium, and it ended against Gene Garber in Fulton County Stadium.
