i took my 2yr old son to the doctor last week for stomach pains, loss of appetite, fever, and dark green/black stool. They checked his urine cause of his stomach pain and found he has blood in his urine. She tested for bladder infection and such but ruled it out cause there was no sign of infection. So they sent it elsewhere to get a 2nd opinion I assume.

Anyways my question is what could the the causes of blood in urine if infection has been ruled out?

  1. Something is going on with he's kidneys.

  2. There are many causes of blood in urine in children. These include infection/urinary reflux, tumors, cystic diseases of the kidney, high blood calcium level, kidney stones, sickle cell disease or trait in African/American patients, and a multitude of medical diseases and syndromes such as IgA nephropathy, lupus, hemolytic-uremic syndrome, Alport's syndrome to name a few. Sometimes the cause could be as simple irritation and bleeding of the tip of p***s or f******n. Ultrasound and VCUG and calcium level rule out some of these such as cystic kidney, infection and urinary reflux and high calcium level. An evaluation by a nephrologist would help determine the other possible causes. You need to follow closely with your urologist and primary doctor.

  3. did they do a culture of the urine. i know they don't like to do that, because they  say that is from the 1950s,  and only want to use computers.  most doctors will not do a culture.  your son isn't well that i can tell you. you have to beat the doctors up to help your son.  don't give up.  i lost my great grand child a couple of months ago, she was a year old. i can only tell you fight for your child, because no one else will.

  4. Most likely something to do with his kidney, either his kidney is not functioning properly or simply he is not getting enough water.

  5. you should be calling the pediatrician's office for this answer.
