My doctor said my perfect vision is 3.0 in nearsighted glasses...but he prescribed me 2.75

Is 2.75 bad vision? Which is the worst vision? Am I halfway to blindness?? =[[[

Everyone says my vision is horrible...

Is it that bad?

  1. I am sixteen and have -4.75 in both eyes. Technically being legally blind means you can't see the E (I don't). Just because you don't see well does not mean that you will not be able to see at all.

  2. Are you sure it wasn't -2.75?

Anyway, that's not bad at all.  I'm -2.75 in my right eye and -3.25 in my left eye and don't consider myself really nearsighted.  I can walk around the house at night without my glasses and not crash into things.  Your vision is better than mine, so no, it's not horrible vision.

  3. -3.00 is on the low end of moderate for prescriptions, so no, it is not horrible at all.  You are halfway to -6.00.  You cannot become blind just from your nearsightedness progressing.  There is no "worst vision," and corrective lenses can get into the 20.00s.  Your vision will probably get worse as you get older and then stabilize in your twenties.

Legal blindness is 20/200 vision or worse and/or a 20 degree field or less in the better seeing eye.

    Hope that helps.
