I've kept parakeets before but never one this young, so I'm a little bit worried. My boyfriend brought home a baby parakeet that looks like it's 3-4 weeks old. Almost all the colored wing feathers are in but there are still some pin feathers around his face, on his stomach, and under his wings. The guy who sold the bird said to pour some "warm, but not too hot or too cold" water over this food (which looks like little yellow seeds) for the bird to eat. The bird eats out of a little dish by himself but also likes to be fed with a "spoon" made from a straw. The food is warm when I give it to him but of course it cools down quickly and he'll eat it even if it's cold. Is that okay? Also, his droppings are a lot wetter and looser than I remember normal adult parakeet droppings being, is it just because he's a baby or because of the moist food? Can I start giving him fresh vegetables, like sprouts, yet?
