Question:

3.4L to 350 or 383 engine swap in a 94 camaro?

I have a 1994 camaro with a 3.4l engine. My car recently got keyed down to the primer so i decided to keep my car and re paint it. By doing so i decided i wanted to drop a faster engine in it.

What are my options with engines (re-manufactured, crate, or rebuild)?

what additional parts would i need to make the swap (front springs, engine mounts etc. etc.)?

How much would the parts roughly cost?

Money is an issue but i am looking for quality, performance parts at low costs...

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

  1. I would suggest getting a Camaro that already has a V8 or look for upgrade parts for what you currently have. Unfortunately its a you win some you lose some ordeal. You can check Summit for all kinds of upgrade parts for your 6 cylinder. Think of it, if you do it right, you can even have a sleeper car.

Going to convert to the 8 cylinder, just like some of the previous answer said, you would have to upgrade those parts. You will also need to get a Z'28's driveshaft (the current one will not hang with a 8 cylinder's power), along with upgrade the gearing.

  2. Its not good to put in a bigger engine than the one that came with the car because the parts in the vehicle was built to run on a 3.4 not a bigger engine.

  3. new engines cost tons.the cost of the new engine, the cost of the mounts, the cost of a new transmission more than likely, new transmission mounts.Probably new front springs cause going from a 3.4L to at least a 5.0L. You may have to make room for "more" engine. These are just the costs i can think of. Truthfully id never buy a re-built engine. I say you beef up the engine its got in it. But if you are going to drop a new engine go with the 383 more power and should be able to find a price close to the 350.

  4. if you have never done this swap before it is a big undertaking and I would sell your car and buy a factory v8 one but and it's a big but, go to the auto wreckers and buy a v8 drop in kit, that will give you all the nuts, bolts, springs what ever you need for the transplant. Also a 3.4 has a different bellhousing bolt pattern on the tranny so you will need to change that also lets not forget about the electronics you will need to change the computer, wiring etc unless you want to use a carberator that's why I would buy a donor v8 car and build it up.

  5. buy a car already built

    factory fast

  6. If money is an issue .Why in the world would you give up 24 to 30 mpg for 8 to 14 mpg ?
