Question:

3.5 Horse, or 4 horse? Outboard Engine, Small boat?

We are looking at getting an outboard small engine for our 11 foot flatbottom boat, How fast would a 3.5 horse go? Would it really be that much less than a 4 horse? (About what mph would one of these go in still water?) I would go larger, but we are already exceeding our weight limit of 350lbs in the boat... The 3.5 horse weighs 37lbs, and the 4 horse, weighs 59..

What should we get?

How fast would a 3.5 go?

How much faster would a 4 go?

Thanks a lot.

  1. If the 3.5 HP is that much lighter, I would go with the 3.5 HP.

There won't be much noticeable improvement in speed from 1/2 HP.  The lighter weight will also help offset the horse power difference.

Neither is going to be very fast anyway.
