I put a new spark plug in. My husband and I thought it might be water in gas so dumped out old gas and put new gas into mower starts but then stops running. My husbad even pushed it about 3 foot steps and it stopped running. What could be the cause of mower stop running. This mower is only 1 yr old

  1. Small engines have one of two issues: fuel or spark.  If the engine runs for a short time, it is most likely a fuel issue.  Did you drain the fuel over the winter, or put fuel stabilizer in?  If you did not, you may have gummed up the carbeurator.  If this is the case you will need to remove the carb and clean up all of the individual components, it is most likely a jet issue.  Good luck

  2. before you get into removing the carb, it may be a little simpler. the 3rd element of an engine is air. on the side of the engine is a grated cover held on with a s***w or thumbscrew that covers the air filter. remove the filter and re-start. if it runs then you just need to clean or replace filter. while you have the filter off, get some spray carb cleaner and spray it into the hole that the air filter was covering(you would be looking at the carb intake). try to run again.

lastly: under the carb which you are looking at is a round metal bowl, usually aluminum colored, and has a nut on the bottom. drain the tank again. remove the hose attached into that bowl, plug it if there is any leftover gas. remove the bowl by unscrewing that nut. frequently you can get junk trapped there which plugs up the fuel to the carb. clean the bowl, re-assemble, refuel, prime the carb by shooting the carb cleaner in the carb, and try again.

    Hope That helps. Good Luck!

  3. The carburetor may be installed on top of the gas tank. If it is there is a small tube that runs from the bottom of the carburetor to the inside of the fuel tank. On the bottom of that tube is a very fine screen. That screen is clogged, preventing fuel from reaching the motor. Simply remove the carburetor and clean the screen. The mower should start quickly and run fine afterward

  4. I will guess that the engine is a Briggs and Stratton.  If it is it mostt likely has a diaphram carburetor.  The carburetor it attached directly to the fuel tank.  You will have to remove the fuel tank and than the carburetor.  Get a new diaphram and gasket from a small engine repair shop and install it.  Make sure the carburetor and the fuel tank are clean.
