  2. Wolves use body language mostly to show dominance and submission in the pack. The dominance-submission ritual ends most arguments before they escalate, avoiding injury.

    Dominate or aggressive postures are high tail, ears forward, staring, raising fur, and baring teeth.

    Other methods wolves use to communicate are similar to humans. Wolves l**k the muzzle of the dominant male as a greeting and wolves seem to visually recognize other wolves both in their pack and from others.

    Recently it has been found that wolves use high frequency communication like whales and dolphins. Studies of this type of communication are new and not much information is available.

    Submissive postures are lowed tail flat ears or ears back, lying on back, and sticking out tongue. A playful submissive posture is the front down and back up.
