Question:

3 Questions Regarding Airports.?

I live in TX and I will be flying to GA. I'm not paying a dime. A friend in GA is paying for the airplane ticket, is paying for a van to come get me from my house, and is paying for my baggages. I have 2 overweight check-in baggages. Now, I am a little worried. Is all this possible for all this to be paid by someone else with a credit card that lives states away? I dont want to be stuck at an airport hoping to go to GA but cant. Thanks.

  1. If  you are going on Delta, you get one bag under 51# free. The second bag will cost $25 for the extra bag charge. If you have a bag that is 51-70# the charge for it is $80. If it is 71-100# it will cost you $150.

Note: If the first bag is, say, 75# and the second bag is 75# the excess baggage charge will be 25 + 80 + 80 = $185.

I suggest that you be prepared to pay for this at the airport. If you cannot, pare your baggage down to only one bag that is less that 50#. Send the rest of the stuff later by UPS or FEDEX. That way you will not be stuck.

  2. The plane ticket can (and should) be bought by your friend ahead of time. No problem with that. The excess baggage charges you would have to check with the airline about. The van can, again, probably be booked and paid for in advance by your friend, but very likely cannot be paid for at the time with the credit card number.

  3. The ticket can be purchased by anyone with a credit car, the van can be reserved ahead of time and put on his/her card, and SOME airlines let you pay for your baggage in advance, but most of them require this payment at the time of check in.

  4. The baggage will be the only one that is iffy here.  Either ask the friend for the credit card number, or see if the airline will allow you to pre-pay for the overweight bags, but that might be tough since the charge could be contingent on the weight, which they won't know until you check in and they weigh the bags.

Think about taking your full allotment of two bags per person, if you have not already considered that.
