Question:

3 Questions about Guinea Pigs.?

Okay. I've had my two guinea pigs for a few months, and I still have some questions about them.

My guinea pigs won't drink their water. Every day I check their drip and they haven't drunken any. It's not clogged up and it's in perfect condition. I'm worried that they're not drinking enough water. What do I do?

Also, my guinea pigs often (nearly always) make this really high pitched noise that goes from a low to a high pitched sound. They have food in their cage but they keep making that sound. What do they want and what's wrong?

And my last question. My guinea pigs don't particularly like each other. What can I do to let them get along so they stop biting one another?

  1. Maybe their water is to high or low. You might need to take them to the vet. Maybe since they fight they won't let each other drink.

    They want vegetables or attention.

Separate them but have them be able to see each other so they learn not to fight.

  2. maybe they prefer to drink they're water from a bowl?

my guinea pigs do that all the time. its normal, they're just playing around. don't worry.

you can't really do anything, but when my guinea pigs get hostile with eachother, i just tap them each on the top of they're heads to make them stop. they stop.

  3. Ahem,

Guinea pigs do not drink a lot of water. If you have a plastic water bottle, replace it with a glass one. Plastics tend to get the moldy grossness when it gets warm lol.

My guinea makes the "wweeeeeee-weeee" noise EVERY time I am in the room because she wants attention. Either attention, or carrots. THe noise usually isn't a bad thing.

If they are fighting, it is usually over dominance! If it doesn't stop within a month, you may need to separate them, then slowly introduce them to each other for a few hours a day.

If that doesn't work, your guineas might have clashing personalities (no joke).

    Good luck!

  4. Guinea pigs don't normally drink too much water, especially if they get fresh fruit or veggies. And when they do drink, it's a small amount, like one or two licks. Awww...when your guinea pigs squeal, they are acknowledging that you are there, or saying they want attention. Or fruits or veggies. Mine squeal if they hear the rustling of their hay bag (they should have an endless supply of this) or if they smell fruit or veggies. Ah...the fighting. Two of my males (who are brothers) did this. What I did was seperate their cage with some chicken wire for a week. After that they were so glad to have the whole cage back, they hardly faught anymore. The fighting isn't really that big of an issue, it's over dominance (you might notice them mounting each other), and as long as they don't seriously hurt each other I wouldn't worry too much.

  5. They are not drinking water because they are sick. If they dont like each other seperate them and dont put them in the same room as each other, thats why they arent drinking any water. When they are making high pitched noises they want to get out of their cages.

  6. Regarding the water bottle problem, I think your piggies are not sure or don't know that their water source is from the bottle. Take them out when you next play with them, put one on your lap and take the water bottle and touch the drip on its mouth to let it taste the water. Keep doing it until they start l*****g the drip and you feel that they know that their water source is from the bottle .

The squealing sound is normal, it just shows that they recognise as their food source. I have piggies that recognise the crickling sound of plastic bags coz they know that's where their fresh grass and carrots come from when I take the bag out from the fridge. They'd squeal from my room.

Also, it's best to separate your piggies if it seems like they can't get along. You may consider giving one away.

  7. well one good reason their probably not drinking is because your giving them veggies witch is great.

they make that sound even when they are not hungry. it just them telling you that they are their and are speaking to one another or trying to sing to one another :)

if your guinea pigs continue to fight i would recommend you separate them because they can hurt one another.
