and why?

My favourite is Surah Al-Iklas because this surah establishes the Oneness of the Creator and also As- Samad is a Third of the Quran.

Jazakallahu Khayran for answering my question.

  1. Right now, I liked Al-Baqarah.. because the first time i read it, in English, to find the meaning, since i don't understand Arab, it moved me.. then i realized how much of an ignorance I've been, so i wanted to changed..

  2. I love all the surahs in the Quran, but my two favorites are Surat Al-Fatihah and Surat Al-Ikhlas.

    Surat Al-Fatiha is especially important to me and there is a reason we recite it in every Raka'a in our Salat. It is a prayer we make for guidance to the straight path:

    [1] In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

    [2] Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;

    [3] Most Gracious, Most Merciful;

    [4] Master of the Day of Judgment.

    [5] Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek,

    [6] Guide us to the straight path,

    [7] The path (way) of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.

    And Surat Al-Ikhlas because of the oneness of God. I can't remember the Hadith exactly, but it was about a man who read surat Al-Ikhlas in every prayer or Rak'a and one of the companions of the prophet came to ask or complain about it, and the prophet told him to tell that man that Allah and His prophet love him and something of that sort. And reading it three times is equal to the entire Quran.

    I think, for me, just understanding the meaning of those Surahs is what makes it spacial. Reading the larger Surahs also surprises me. The more I read them over and over, I realize I missed something the first time, meaning wise. It explains so much in every verse.

    I have more favorites in verses than Surahs, each serves a purpose and each inspires me. My two favorite though, would be:

    When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way.

    - Surah 2 Verse 186

    Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for God loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds. Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of God is (always) near to those who do good.

    - Surah 7 Verses 55 - 56

    Both these verses are very inspiring and show that no matter what, we can always ask Allah for forgiveness and that he is always near. Definitely keeps me away from thinking that there is no way to turn back to good =]

    And of course, the verses that encourage good:

    As for such [of the unbelievers] as do not fight against you on account of [your] faith, and neither drive you forth from your homelands, God does not forbid you to show them kindness and to behave towards them with full equity: for, verily, God loves those who act equitably.

    - 60:8

    AND WORSHIP God [alone], and do not ascribe divinity, in any way, to aught beside Him. And do good unto your parents, and near of kin, and unto orphans, and the needy, and the neighbor from among your own people, and the neighbor who is a stranger, and the friend by your side, and the wayfarer, and those whom you rightfully possess. Verily, God does not love any of those who, full of self-conceit, act in a boastful manner;

    - 4:36

    If you do deeds of charity openly, it is well; but if you bestow it upon the needy in secret, it will be even better for you, and it will atone for some of your bad deeds. And God is aware of all that you do.

    - 2:271

    And [God says:] ‘We have enjoined upon man goodness towards his parents: his mother bore him by bearing strain upon strain, and his utter dependence on her lasted two years: [hence, O man,] be grateful towards Me and towards thy parents, [and remember that] with Me is all journeys’ end.

    - 31:14
