Double negative.  If they DON'T need NO ice cream, that means they need ice cream, which they don't.

The don't cancels out the no, or the no cancels out the don't.

For example, if I say, "You DON'T need A cookie."  Then I am in effect canceling out "need a cookie" by saying you don't need one.  In the same way, If you say, "They need no ice cream." you are saying that they don't need any... so if you say, "They don't need no ice cream."
