Question:

3-Wire connection LG Dryer. Where does Ground connect to?

I have purchased a LG dryer and my house has a 3 wire connection. The diagrams and manuals are not too clear on what I do with the ground wire. The green ground wire is connected to two points behind the dryer. Does one of them need to be connected to the neutral middle wire? I have attached images of the back of the dryer and the manual at the link below:

Image A shows the green ground wire close to the center terminal block, Image B shows the instructions for the connection of the dryer for 3 wire connection, Image C shows the other end of the Green Ground wire behind the dryer, Image D shows the diagram on the back of the dryer for 3 wire connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated here as my dirty clothes are piling up :)

  1. The codes have changed for dryer and stove wiring and a four wire/ four prong plug/receptical is now required. Your three wire receptical will or at least should  have a bare ground wire inside. To meet codes you should replace the entire hookup with a four wire system as described in Wired's link

  2. Here is a link showing how to wire both the three wire dryer cord and the four wire dryer cord.

  3. ok...this is fun! the green wire in the color picture is the ground for the drier body...incase the the clothes create static electricity. the middle wire on the actual plug wire is also considered the "neutral" or "ground" wire. if you just hook it up as in the color picture You should be good to go.

  4. connect as in A the netural must go in the center. the ground wire can go to any s***w on yhe body of the drier. the most important connections are the position of the power which are L1 and L2 N is your white netural. the ground is a chassie or body ground . any s***w will do..........
