Question:

3-Wood Recommendation?

My previous question was answered and I'm now looking at getting a 3-wood as my primary tee-off club for a while. I realize I should go to a local shop and swing several clubs, but there are so many brands/models out. What are some recommendations for a solid 3 wood for a high handicapper?

  1. Hybore XLS, or the Burner seem to be the nicest.

  2. If you go to the local shop which offers several brands of 3-woods  find the club which feels best in your hands. Forget the fancy club names and labels." Feel "is the factor which raises confidence in a golf shot . By that I mean you will know that there is a club head at the end of the shaft because you feel that club head being there. If  you start using the 3 wood to drive remember to tee the ball lower since the mass of that head will be smaller than the driver. You want to hit flush on the club face. You don't want to swing under the ball.

  3. It is great that you will use a 3 wood off the tee. It shows that you are realistic about your skill. I have committed to play golf consistently only over the past 5 years. My first four I used a 3 wood exclusively off the tee. This year is the first year I am attempting to selectively use my driver.

My 3 wood is an Adams Tight Lies "Smart" 3 wood. I also have the matching "Strong" 5 wood. I found my 3 and 5 wood by hitting several kinds. The Adams Tight Lies felt the best and gave me the most confidence over the ball.

    Hit'm Straight

  4. I have a TaylorMade Burner 3 wood and would recommend it to anybody regardless of hdcp.
