Question:

3 Year Old Erection... What would you have said?

I was driving my son on a trip last week and, all of a sudden, he started crying. I asked him what was wrong and he said his p***s hurt. Just as I was about to pull over (he was crying pretty hard), he said, "it's standing up in my pants and it hurts". I tried so hard not to laugh; I succeeded w/ not letting him see me. I was clueless and finally told him, "it will lay back down in a minute, baby".

What would you have said or done?

Is he old enough for my husband to talk to him about this issue so that he won't be alarmed next time? (Short & sweet explanation, of course.)

  1. that was funny!!!! i couldn't keep a straight face if my son said the same thing.

  2. I am not really sure as I have never been faced with that situation and for now I only have a girl. BUT I just might use that line if you dont mind if ever need be. :D it is pretty funny though. I would wait til he is a little older though before getting a "talk" even if its not too detailed.

  3. Shame...sweetthing he must have been horrified..i wonder what the problem could have been..is it really an erection at his age? i wonder..maybe u should visit the doctor to confirm he is all fine..hey u did well..

  4. you did just fine - i'd've' said casually "yeah, they do that.  they think it's funny".

  5. You handled it as a mother would have :-)

I have 2 boys myself and theirs have had some happy moments. Sometimes it does hurt them but its all natural. I say that it is just having a happy moment and it will behave on its own soon. It really confuses them but my boys only have it when they get up in the morning.

  6. You handled it just right, I don't think you have to talk to him anymore about it...it may confuse him. I have four boys and this happens to them on occasion if they have to go potty really bad.

  7. I would have said the same thing you said I will try to tell that sometimes little boys p***s stands up for no apparent reason i mean he is 3 there's really nothing else you can tell him
