3 days ago i got pulled over,it turned out that my license was suspended and got my cr impounded due toaticket

ok i was dirving home from work and i got pulled over the cop took my license and ran it he told me that i had a suspended license i said it cant be i've never been pulled over before,he said you have a failure to appear,so what he did he took my license from me and impounded my car for 30 days....the next day i went to the dmv to get a print out of my driving record and it turned out that there was an outstanding ticket on there from 2006 that never got paid that wasnt mines....i got a copy of the ticket and its under my name and under my birthdate but the car that they were driving is not mines and it also had an address thatsw not mines,also the ticket has no drivers license number on it..........as of now i have no car and no license and well i really need my license back because this is a big misunderstanding somehoe someway they put this freakin ticket under my record,also i am getting charged impound fees everyday and i cant get myt car out untill i get all of this mess cleared up....also when i got pulled over the cops gave me another ticket for driving with a suspended license................this is a big mess and it has ruined my whole month has anybody ever been through anythinng like this??????how can i clear all of this big mess up????????can anybody give me any advice on what to do and how to get my license ans car back as soon as possible????

It is possible that you have been the victim of identity theft.

Contact the police dept that issued the ticket in 2006. See if you can have them do some research (ie on the vehicle that the person was driving). Perhaps the owner of that vehicle has the same or similar name as you.

You may also try to do some research as to where you were for the date and tiem when the ticket was issued...if you can prove that you weren't there (ie at work or out of state on vacation etc).

You may want to just pay the 2006 ticket. Or go to the court house as fight it. Take proof of payment to DMV, who will then reinstate your license.

When you go to court on your suspended license ticket. Explain the situation, AND the steps (see above) that you have taken to recitify the situation as soon as you become aware of it.
