Hi! We have 3 days in Rome, what are the must see attractions that I shouldn't miss? Is it hard to get around the city; should we walk, take taxis or metro? Do I need to make reservations at any of the attractions???

  1. everywhere! The best is walking around in the city center.. and look well.. you see a "normal" modern building and just near a wonderful palace or roman construction... The taxi is really too expensive.. metro is a good way.. Some attraction not to miss: Colosseum,

Vatican City (St. Peter's and Vatican Museums) Piazza di Spagna, Castel S. Angelo near the Tevere River.

This is a good source of info www.romaturismo.it

    Enjoy your trip!

  2. hi i live in rome, i am italian, so trust me. u must see:

    -the colosseum

    - trevi fountain (beautiful, expecially at night time)

    - the vatican (and obviously the sistine chapel)

    - take a walk down Via del Corso 4 shopping (or even via condotti if u have a lot of money..lol)

    -piazza navona

    -castel st. angelo

    - fori imperiali e bocca della verità

    - all tourist go to spanish steps, i dont think is that great but u can still go, just to say "ive been there"

Take the metro 2 go around, its really easy and it only costs 1 euro. buy a map.

Enjoy! Rome is beautiful!!!! And dont eat in touristic restaurants, look 4 smaller hidden real italian restaurants!!!

oh, u can also do some bus sightseeing, theyre cool.

  3. try to stay in the historical center and walk, walk a lot

Rome has a very good metro system.  You also can take bus....and of course, prepare to do a lot of walking for sightseeing.

  5. get on the "110 open" tour bus, its red and doesnt have a roof.it takes you along all of the famous sites, you just have to buy a ticket for €12, and then you can get on and off for the whole day.no booking needed just ask your hotel clerk where the nearest stop from your hotel is. have a fabulous time!!

  6. Stay at Eurostars International Palace hotel-via Nazionale no.46, it's a very well located one and from here you can walk and see the main beauties of Rome. You can choose them from Yahoo-Travel-Italy-Rome and on this page you can find the "must see" places.

  7. METRO!!  it was super! no reservations.  what do you want to see?  I have a few walking trips planned from a trip there with my folks ( they were in their 70's and did it fine). here's a little overview

    1) piazza Navona - st agnes in Agone, Countians Dei Fiumi, San't Agnostino, Piazza di Spagna, Plazzo Barbaerini, Trevi Fountain, St Mario SOpra Minervva, Panthenon, St Bridgets, Vitorio Emanual II (their tomb on the unknown soldier is there)

    2) St Peters, VAtican Tour & Museum tour (while waiting to get into the museum, go early, on the corner is a darlin little coffee shop and they have exceptionally clean restrooms too!

    3) Church tour

santa Maria Maggiorre, San Giovani in Laterno, Santo Stefano Rotondo, Sanitia Quattro Cononati ( getting here was a trip - up by people's homes and into this run donw but beaufitu church by some dudes car repair shop), Basicila of San Clemente, San PEter in Voncolli (st peter in chains MUST SEE),Colosseo & Palatine, Holy Staircase - said to be the stairs Christ walked up to meet Pontius Pilate.

make sure you read up a little on the history - it's amazing.  when int he vatican and seeing the sistine chapel and last judgement -- look at the lower right hand corner.  you will see a man with donkey ears and a ssnake curled up around him -- this is the cardnal that make Michelangelo come back and cover the naked bodies - this was his revenge on the cardinal  ; )

also to the lower right of Jesus (in the center) the guy with the beard is said to be Mich. himself in a self portrait. to the lower left you will see some people being "pulled" out of h**l - he's using a rosary not a rope - telling us prayer can save.

I highly recommend the tour of the vatican museum with a guide!

oh and while in st Peters -- make sure you get to the catacombs.

recommendation -- visa or mastercard - no amex! take kellnix and toilet paper - also they don't have deodornt soap in european hotels like here and -- this book: knopf mapguides - rome.  the fodors had some great stuff too but this was easier to carry around.

i'm jealous -- can i go with you  ; )  enjoy!!!!!  if you want more info - just ask - pictures too as i finally have them all downloaded and labeled!

  8. see the vatican and st peters.  go to the vatican around lunch to beat the crowd and see st peters in the late afternoon so there are less people and the sunsetting just adds to the ambience.  walk as much as possible, you get to explore so much more that way!  but for a cheap transportation, get a 24 hour or more subway pass.  we took it back and forth our last day in rome and it saved so much time.  i wouldnt worry about reservations for attractions, but do consider the price to get in on your own versus what a tour guide is offering to help you cut ahead.  they claim lines are super long but that is not always the case.  to save some heartache, get a map of the city and mark the major sites you want to see.  that way as you walk you can make a loop instead of running back and forth.  it will save time, your feet, and allow more time at each place with the efficiency.

  9. nowhere, come back home.

  10. Rome in Two to Three Days

On the first day, do the "Caesar Shuffle" from the Colosseum to the Forum, then over Capitol Hill to the Pantheon. After a siesta, join the locals strolling from Piazza del Popolo to the Spanish Steps (see my recommended "Dolce Vita Stroll," in Rick Steves' Rome). Have dinner near your hotel. On the second day, see the Vatican City (St. Peter's, climb the dome, tour the Vatican Museum). Have dinner on the atmospheric Campo de' Fiori, then walk to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps (see my recommended "Night Walk Across Rome," in Rick Steves' Rome). With a third day, add the Borghese Gallery (reservations required) and the National Museum of Rome.

  11. The Sistine Chapel to see the works of Michelangelo, the Collosuem. Go to Rick Steves Back Door to Europe travel site for excellent material on when to go, what to see, how to travel light and cheap.
