  1. if you want a nice submersible

  2. What does your boat information plate say is the max HP for the boat?

If you can use the 3 hp I am sure that it will do fine.  Be careful about exceeding the max hp for your boat, as well as weight.

  3. My 11' GRP-hulled boat weighed far more and often had four or five adults on board. I had a 4hp Mariner outboard which was more than enough even when going upstream against a six knot current and a one gallon can of fuel would last me all day.

It all depends on how fast you need to go and whether your hull is capable of riding up and planing. If you need to do that then even a 6-8hp will be fine for your needs and it's still fairly easy to carry between the car and your boat.

  4. it will work

  5. No... you will want to get at least 6-8 hp

  6. a 12' aluminum jon boat draws about 3 inches of water  with you in it''' on a lake I think you will get where you want to go with a 3 horsepower.

I used to use just an electric Minnkota and a car battery. Worked out fine.
