Question:

3 month old favors me over my husband?

I asked this question earlier, but didn't get a lot of responses:

He injured his knee around 5/6 weeks of her life, and has since required surgery and a lot of time off of his feet while healing. She is now 3 months old (15 weeks), and definitely shows a preference for me when she is upset and wants to be comforted. He is very bothered by this, as he wants desperately to be the "apple of her eye" the way that he was before. He does not show frustration or react a certain way when he can't calm her, but what can we do to help her get used to him again and help her react to him the way that she does to me (which is what happened prior to his injury). It's important to realize that he is NOT frustrated with her. He is very loving and caring. They spend lots of time together, and he lays with her, he just can't calm her and she shows an obvious preference for me. Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. It's completely normal. She'll be all yours until she's about 18 mos old, then she'll shift to a Daddy's Girl and stay that way.

  2. Perfectly normal.  My 6 month boy favors me (mommy) and my two year old can't stand be away from her daddy.  Soon enough your baby girl will be "daddy's little girl".

  3. I think this has nothing to do with him getting injured at all. Babies change preferences alot throughout that's how they become their own little individual selves. Tell daddy that it's nothing that's not going to change again and to keep up the interaction and his quality one on one time. Everything will be fine.

  4. It is completely normal, especially at that age.  They would rather be with their mothers at that age because they have more of a connection at that time.  Also ur husband has been under some stress lately with what he has had to go through even he doesnt feel it the baby does.  She will come around soon give it time after all shes only 3 months.

  5. well its the same with me and my hubby and our son (10months old)  if he gets a booboo he doesnt want anyone but me to hold him....i guess its a mommy thing!!!

  6. Young babies usually do favor their mom over their dad.  You were the one that carried her for 9 months. Totally normal.  Tell your husband to not take it personally.
