Question:

3 options for studying abroad in Australia -- Help?

I am from the US and planning on going next spring. My options are Murdoch in Perth, Macquarie in Sydney, and Univesity of Wollongong. It would help if someone told me what differences I could expect between these three options and give me a recommendation. Which one is the most laid-back (I don't want to be bogged down with coursework all the time)? Which one is the friendliest? Is there lots of anti-american sentiment in Australia?

Thanks

  1. Hi yeah well i dont know to much about universitys because I'm too young but I would choose Maquarie as I live near there lol. It has the best climate, its also the sort of most populated place. Also there isnt much anti amercanism although there is a few idiots. But yeah choose maquarie! Although I'm not sure how laid back it is.

  2. i don't know about perth, i know wollongong is a good university but i think macquarie would be a good university to go to. it does depend on what you want to study as well, but coming from overseas you'd probably enjoy macquarie more because of it's location. it's about 20 minutes from sydney city, while wollongong is about over 2 hours away. macquarie is harder to get into i think, but if you get accepted then go for it. it has a great community and there's always something happening.

and for your last question, no there's not much anti-american sentiment in australia at all.

  3. Out of those uni's Wollongong ranks highly, having won many award for best university.

Not sure about the area Murdoch is located but Macquarie is in Sydney so fast paced stressful lifestyle.

Wollongong is a more laid back regional but still big town. We're very socially oriented and friendly. Wollongong is close enough to Sydney if you need to go there but far enough away from the hustle and bustle at the same time.

UOW is a very international based uni with students from everywhere, you don't have to worry about biased to discrimination.

I'm born and bred in the gong, so if you have any other questions feel free to email me via the link on my profile.

EDIT- Wollongong is only an hour from Sydney not 2 hrs, accomodation would also be cheaper in Wollongong.
