Ok I just got this speedo fastskin suit: http://www.swim-shop.com/images/sp_s_fs2f_7190142_041.jpg

I have 3 questions about it:

1. What do the bumps really do?

2. Does it actually make you go faster?

3. Should I wear it for all swim meets, or just the 3 big ones?

Thanks for answering!!!!

  1. I have no idea about the bumps, (I've always wondered that myself) but I'll try to help you with your other questions.

Yes, it does make you go a little bit faster, but not enough to make up for not practicing enough or tapering. Usually it only makes one drop a few tenths/hundredths of a second or so (depending on the race). This can make a big difference, or at least the difference of a place or two at a big meet though, which is why people buy them. I would only where them to the big meets, because they wear out quickly, becoming see-through (especially the gray parts on the sides) and the bumps tend to fall off. Furthermore they are extremely uncomfortable because you typically buy them smaller than your regular competition suit. Hope this helped!

  2. 1.the bumps prevent water from going into the suit and creating drag

2.it does by maybe a half a second, but if you work super hard it definitly wil. this drastic time change will probably only happen the first time though.

    3. for most meets, wear your team suit. show some team spirit. when it really counts, wear the fastskin. i bet others will be weraing it 2!!

  3. My sister has one and she told me this:

The bumps ruduce drag by 3%

I think so, because it reduces drag

that is really your choice. If you want to go fast, I think you should wear it. But don't wear it too much so it doesn't get worn out.
