  1. Here are some thoughts.

    1.  You cannot be deployed until after you complete training.  This means that they will expect you to graduate, attend BTC, and your MOS school.

    2.  As a Marine Officer, you cannot be a Marine Sniper.  Simply put, it is an enlisted option.  Have you considered going in an Intelligence, or Infantry Officer?  Although they are not snipers, they receive some of the same training, and lead these individuals into combat.

    Good Luck.

  2. The Marine Corps PLC doesn't make you a Marine technically. Although you will be paid for those summers, you will have absolutely NO Obligation until you accept your commission. A commissioning is only offered to the candidate after he or she has completed his or her course of study. In other words, as far as the Marine Corp is concerned, you are useless until you graduate. Of course, if things get really bad, you may get drafted. But seriously you have no obligations to the Marine corps, which is why you get only $3K instead of a full scholarship like the NROTC guys.

Now as far as Sniping. Marine officers choose their jobs after Basic School which is a six month training after you graduate from college. The top third of the graduating class gets first choice at a job.

    WRITE THIS DOWN

The officer job you want -in charge of snipers- is 0203 "Ground Intelligence Officer". The good news is every single male marine officer who is not going for aviation, artillery or armour is going for that job. In a class of 250, the Marines allow 1 or 2 0203 Officers. Good luck. The bad news is that the Corps trained you to be a platoon leader. You would have to qualify as rifle and pistol expert, and go to scout sniper training, but still you wouldn't actually be a sniper. You would lead a sniper platoon and if good and lucky a recon platoon down the road. It would be rare that you'd actually "snipe". You won't even have a spotter. :-( You will be just as prepared however, but not as experienced. There may be new opportunities however in MARSOC. You may want to consider the Navy
