  1. The four subfields are mostly an American thing.  In other countries archaeology tends to associate more with Geology departments than anthropology.  Also, applied anthropology, in other words anthropologists who get real jobs, are sometimes called the fifth subfield.

  2. culture, structure, ideology. maybe

  3. physical anthropology

    cultural anthropology

    social anthropology

  4. Anthropology is the study of people. Anthropologists study the origin, behavior, physical, social and cultural evolution of humankind. The sub-divisions are biological, cultural, and archaeological.

With regard to Vanessa's answer below:  In the USA cultural anthropology – which is effectively ethnology – is considered as a "special" subdivision of anthropology.

  5. There's actually four subfields.

-Archaeology: The study of material culture of past peoples.

-Physical Anthropology: The biological study of humanity and its ancestors (this ranges from evolutionary studies to forensics)

-Cultural Anthropology or Social Anthropology: The study of current peoples and their culture.

-Linguistic Anthropology: The study of language, both in a biological sense (brain functions and physiology) and the structure and use of language.

Some people tend to lump Linguistic with Cultural (I do personally) but it is recognized as its own subfield in 95% of Departments and textbooks.

  6. These are the three divisions:

    Bogus

    c**p

    Physical Anthropology
