- marxists..believe that the family is beneficial to the ruling class..since the separation from the extended family people have been living in a nuclear family which helps keep capitalism going as everyone has to have a fridge each, a car each, a tv each etc..the family helps to keep wealth in families to pass on to legitemate children and without the family the ruling class would not exist

- feminists..believe that the family is only beneficial to men..the family and polygomous relationship controls women's sexuality and keeps the man dominant of his wife
