3 weeks in Brazil?

Question

I'm spending my holiday in Brazil!

Where should I go to see the best sights and experience the best slice of brazilian life?

I have 5 internal flights and I'm arriving and leaving from Sao paulo.

Any ideas would be well appreciated !

Five internal flights:

Sao Paulo to Destination 1

Destination 1 to destination 2

Destinantion 2 to destination 3

Destination 3 to destination 4

Destination 4 to Sao Paulo.

So you'll have four more places to visit. And you have three weeks, say 19 days (discounted departure and arrival). I'll suggest you a schedule of places to go, but you really must check online travel guides to get a better picture of them all.

Sao Paulo is the biggest city and Brazil, bigger than any US city. There isn't so much to do, though, compared to what you'll find in the rest of the country. I suggest you do some tourism in the day you arrive, find a great restaurant (best fodd you'll find in Brazil) and, if you're interested, enjoy the night life, no matter what day in the week it will be. Do it likewise the day you return, except for the night life part, and that's it, you still got 19 days.

Destination 1. To get a big slice, a chunk of Brazilian life you must go to Rio. You could very well spend your whole holidays there. Lots of things to do and places to visit: the Cristo Redentor, Pao de Acucar, Jardim Botanico, Copacabana beach, Leblon beach, Lapa, and the list goes on and on. You'll have an excelent time and won't miss anything important if you stay there for 6 days. That will leave you with 13 days left.

Destination 2: Salvador and surroundings. It's Brazil's first capital, a historic place with great beaches and lots of touristic atractions. You could rent a car or get a bus to other places around, like Lencois. 4 or 5 days there will be great. Now 8 or 9 days are left.

From now on, it very much depends on your tastes. You'd have two more flights left. If you like beaches and sun and action, you should go to other Northeastern Brazil cities like Porto Seguro, Recife, Olinda (by dcar from Recife), Natal etc. If you aren't into action, but enjoy nature and beaches, try Fernando de Noronha, a paradisiac island with the best spots for scuba diving in the world. You could also go to Manaus, capital of the Brazilian Amazonas state. To sum it up, you got two more destinations to go and 8 or 9 days, but now you're past the "to-do list" stage of your trip, and can choose destinations that fit you best.

Day 21, try to get to Sao Paulo early in the morning, have a moderate brunch, go to Parque Ibirapuera stretch your legs, have a lavish last genuine Brazilian meal in a traditional restaurant and head to the airport, hopefuly very satisfied with your trip.

you should go to the northeast, states like Bahia, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte are very beautiful and always hot!

there is an island called Fernando de Noronha is just gorgeous, if you look up on the internet you'll see what I am talking about - it's wonderful.

well,  and if you have the chance go to Curitiba is a beautiful city in the south of Brazil and since you are arriving in São Paulo, you should visit the city, there are some cool museums(MASP and MAM), nice night clubs - it is a huge city you won't be bored there! hehehe

YEs.. dont miss SALVADOR, BAHIA .. highly recommended city.  BEAUTIFUL !  i would recomend taking a city tour .. and to also see a Capoeira show while there.

Rio is also nice .. i recommend going up to see Christ.

and you must visit the Iguacu WaterFalls..  its about a 2 hour flight from Rio perhaps..  must see the Brazilian side.. as well as the Argentin side..  you'll need your passport to cross over.

when are you going ?  remember .. their seasons are the exact opposite from the North.  While its summer in the USA.. its winter there.

I am scottish but living near Sao Paulo.  If you staying near Sao Paulo, get yourself out to a fazenda somewhere.

Would recommend this one, if you want peace and quiet, also has great walking around it and is easy to get to from SP.  Has ecotours and is in the mountains near the rainforrest.

Depends on what time of year you are going.  I would recommend the Amazon, and Manaus, which is an experience or Belem.  Try to stay away from main tourist spots.  I have heard that some of the islands up north are beautiful if you like beaches.
